Cicadas

Cicadas are insects that are found around the world and are best known for their pulsating, very loud, buzzing sound produced in summer and fall. Two types of cicadas are found in eastern North America – annual cicadas – which can be found every summer, and periodical cicadas that appear in any given locality once every 13 or 17 years. Only annual cicadas are found in Florida, but we have 19 different species – many of which are of a group known as “Dog-day Cicadas”.
