A private review of documents relating to grand jury proceedings in a case involving the death of an inmate at the Charlotte County Correctional Institute in 2014 is being requested by the Clerk of Court for Charlotte County. That request was made in a response to a petition filed in June by Fort Myers Attorney Christopher Crowley seeking to have the sealed proceedings opened.

Marshall Goodman, 64, recently promised government officials that he can “spark a revitalization” of private enterprise in rural Central Florida. In order to do that, he told officials that he needs taxpayers to finance his $40 million plan to build and operate five 20,000 square-foot business incubators — where fledgling companies can pay a fee for office space and management training — in small towns in Polk County. It's similar to a claim he made in Collier County a few years ago.

State Health officials reported a single-day spike of 245 coronavirus-related deaths, Tuesday, increasing the statewide death toll to 7,402 fatalities. Tuesday’s reported deaths marked the third highest single day number of fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic.The Florida Department of Health also reported 5,446 new cases of COVID-19, Aug. 4, increasing the statewide total to 497,330 cases.Yesterday marked the tenth consecutive day the state has reported fewer than 10,000 cases in a day.
