Punta Gorda and Fort Myers mural societies enhancing mural longevity with new technology

For more than 30,000 years, artists have been painting murals on walls, whether in caves, Egyptian tombs or Minoan palaces. But walls crumble. Buildings get condemned. Stanchions get washed away by storm surge. Now there’s an alternative.

While the aluminum panels that covered the windows have been removed, that part of the mural painted directly on the stucco still needs to be painted over.

Lab Theater removing mural at direction of Fort Myers Historic Preservation Commission

On November 21, the Fort Myers Historic Preservation Commission denied The Laboratory Theater of Florida’s retroactive application for permission to place a mural on the Second Street side of their building at 1634 Woodford Ave. In compliance with their decision, Lab Theater has begun the process of removing the mural.

Gimmick or Groundbreaking Genre? Fort Myers unveils Southwest Florida's first augmented reality mural.

The first augmented reality mural in Southwest Florida was unveiled at Art Walk on January 5th. The Fort Myers Mural Society hopes the mural will appeal to a younger demographic and Southwest Florida's expanding pool of cultural and heritage tourists.
