Nearly a full week after Hurricane Milton, Spectrum Internet reported outages for more than 367,000 Floridians, and with reports of poor cell service due to increased traffic and loss of infrastructure, many people had spotty communication at best.

Three Dunbar High School students will go for the triple crown this summer at the 2023 Certiport Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship. The Fort Myers school will have a state champion competing in each of the three categories: Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Southwest Florida awards went to projects in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, DeSoto, Glades, Hendry and Highlands counties. The projects ranged from $63,311 to add 1.1 miles of fiber optic cable in Bokeelia to $4.75 million to bring high speed internet service to eastern Hendry County. Other communities involved included Lehigh Acres in Lee County, Punta Gorda in Charlotte County and Orangetree and Golden Gate Estates in Collier County.
