Meals of Hope

  • In an effort to help feed those in need this holiday season, the Meals of Hope organization will bring together an estimated 2,000 volunteers Saturday, to put together 420,000 packs of their ready to eat fortified pre-cooked oatmeal packs.
  • The holidays are a busy time for food distributors, even as they face challenges brought about by the pandemic. One organization is trying to feed the hungry in Southwest Florida and beyond, even as COVID is keeping volunteers at home.
  • State health officials reported 5,266 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, Monday, bringing the statewide total to 146,341 cases. June 29 marked the sixth consecutive day that the number of new cases counted in a single day topped 5,000.This past Saturday marked a new daily record with 9,585 cases reported. Florida's coronavirus caseload has more than doubled since phase two of Gov. Ron DeSantis' reopening plan went into effect June 5.
