On May 4th, eight Lee County High Schools participated in the High School Musical Theatre Awards. Established by Barbara B. Mann General Manager Scott Saxon, it's the equivalent of the Tony Awards for local high school theater shows and the students who perform in them.

While comedienne Carol Burnett is revered for making people laugh, she was also an author and playwright. Her memoir focused on her early life and influences along with her relationship with her daughter, Carrie Hamilton. The play the two wrote together, "Hollywood Arms," teaches invaluable lessons about escaping poverty, the agony of shattered hopes, and the triumph of realized dreams.

The 37th Annual All Florida Juried Exhibit is on view this month in the main gallery of the Alliance for the Arts. The show continues to grow in stature and statewide recognition, as evidenced by the fact that the Alliance received 120 more submissions this year than it did in 2022. That presented this year’s juror, Grace Gdaniec, with quite the challenge when it came to deciding which 60 or so works to include in this year’s exhibition.

When most people begin researching their family tree on websites like Ancestry.com, they expect to find uplifting and inspirational stories about their ancestors' incredible journeys turning challenges into triumphs. But what happens when you find out that you trace your lineage to perhaps the most prolific serial killer in human history?

Is it fair for one artist to copy another's work? And if it is, must that artist credit the other as the inspiration for their new work? An exhibition of ants crawling all over the face and columns of the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in downtown Fort Myers has artists and art lovers asking these very questions.
