Named for the Collier County sheriff who put deputies in schools in 1977 with the Youth Relations Deputy Program, newly opened Aubrey Rogers High School aims to pay homage to the history of the county while continually innovating for the future.

Conservative political influencer and businessman Francis "Alfie" Oaks has filed a temporary restraining order seeking to prevent the Collier County School Board from entering into a contract with newly selected superintendent, Dr. Leslie C. Ricciardelli.

A candidate for the position of Collier County School Board attorney withdrew his name, prompting the board to revisit posting the position again.

School districts that closed for at least a day because of Hurricane Ian will have flexibility related to reporting enrollment, according to the Florida Department of Education. Districts periodically report enrollment numbers and other information to the state that can affect their funding.

Collier County Public Schools is working on a solution to housing cost concerns that would allow employees an opportunity to save money to buy a home later on.

State health officials reported 4,853 new COVID-19 cases and 59 deaths, Wednesday.
