A Southwest Florida company is benefiting from a major shift in how unmanned aircrafts, or “drones," are regulated. The new rules reduce the standards for who can fly the drones. This is allowing Fort Myers-based Soaring Sky to expand nationwide.

Update 08/16/16  

One of three men arrested shortly after the Club Blu mass shooting in Fort Myers was in court Tuesday. 

Demetrius O’Neal appeared with his lawyer to plead not guilty to one count of resisting arrest. It is a misdemeanor charge.

O’Neal, Tajze Battle and Derrick Church were arrested the night of the shooting. Court documents say police received a call roughly a half hour after the shooting about a suspicious vehicle that was "unloading an injured party near a dumpster" in a nearby apartment complex.

  An initiative called One Million Moms OFF Welfare” is in Fort Myers for a two day conference with local social service agencies and low-income single mothers.

 The Fort Myers City Council voted Tuesday to allow a junkyard to expand.  Opponents said the city previously took measures to stop any more junkyards from coming to or expanding in the city. The approval was a long and contested battle.
