Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam made his pitch for governor before a group of civic leaders in Tampa Friday morning.

Putnam laid out his vision for education reform before taking questions from the audience at Cafe Con Tampa. He called for increased funding for technical colleges and vocational training in Florida's middle and high schools.

Fort Lauderdale’s War Memorial Auditorium, inside Holiday Park, has been hosting gun shows seven times a year for the last 30 years. On Tuesday, the City Commission announced at a conference meeting that it’s looking to end those shows later this year.

 

Elected officials from 10 Florida cities are suing state officials over a law that prohibits local governments from enacting their own gun regulations.

President Donald Trump's proposal to arm teachers in the wake of the Parkland school shooting has met with opposition from many teachers and students, but Polk County's sheriff created a program doing just that two years ago.

Southeastern University adopted Sheriff Grady Judd's "Sentinel Program" in 2016, offering 132 hours of training so teachers or faculty could become special sheriff's deputies and legally carry concealed weapons on campus.

Webber International University also adopted the program but so far they are the only institutions that have bitten.

While a new law allows Florida schools to arm their teachers, the Leon County School Board has unanimously approved a resolution stating they won’t be doing that in their school district.
