DCF Secretary On Case Of Girl Found In Freezer

The investigation continues into the death of an 11-year-old girl in Manatee County who was found dead in a freezer. Documents released earlier this week show child welfare investigators with the Sheriff’s Office made multiple visits to the home.

Despite evidence of abuse, investigators wrote that Janiya Thomas and her four siblings were not in imminent danger.

Jacksonville’s Police and Fire Pension Fund got a D minus on a recent forensic audit. 

Benchmark Financial Services issued its report on the pension plan today at the City Council’s request.

Auditor Edward Siedle says he based the fund’s near-failing grade on what he called a "profound lack of transparency and cooperation" by its overseers.

Tampa Police announced that a 23-year-old man is being charged in an incident that left former

University of South Florida football player Elkino Watson dead and current USF student Desmond Horne injured. 

Randolph Graham, 23, turned himself in at Tampa Police headquarters Wednesday night. Graham, who was joined by his lawyer, will be charged with second-degree murder with a weapon and attempted murder with a weapon, police said.

A panel is recommending a University of Central Florida fraternity not be found in violation of the school’s sexual misconduct policy. Sigma Nu’s suspension could be lifted this week.

The fraternity was accused of condoning sexual misconduct. The trouble started with an undercover video where one member of Sigma Nu can be heard chanting “rape ‘em” after a night of drinking.

Florida law enforcement officers provided around-the-clock security for Attorney General Pam Bondi for six weeks this year due to a threat that is still under investigation.

Authorities had not previously acknowledged the threat until today. That’s because a new report released by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement showed the state had spent more than $216,000 on providing security for Bondi this past year.
