Ira Glass, the host and creator of the iconic public radio program This American Life cames to Fort Myers April 14 to deliver his unique brand of storytelling in a one man show at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall.

In this interview we explore Glass’ life and career now producing a show distributed by more than 500 public broadcasting stations and reaching about 1.8 million listeners each week.

Florida taxpayers are helping subsidize three industries that have been blamed for recent mass shootings: violent movies, bloody video games and high-powered assault weapons. In 2012 the Florida legislature gave more than $10 million worth of economic incentives to those three industries while Governor Rick Scott vetoed funding to mental health programs.

The state legislature has made Florida's tax code more business-friendly in recent years in order to lure more jobs to the state.

Media General sells Tampa Tribune, TBO

The 117-year-old Tampa Tribune has been sold. Starting this week, the Tribune is being run by a new company called Tampa Media Group.

The Tampa Tribune's previous owner was a Virginia based company called Media General Inc. The Tribune, its affiliated newspapers and are now owned by Revolution Capital Group based in California.

The price tag was $9.5 million.

Media General keeps WFLA News Channel 8 but the TV station will remain partners with the newspaper.
