Scientists say a North Atlantic right whale has made another appearance in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Naples

The Naples Daily News reports that charter boat Capt. Robert Holzinger was fishing with customers about 3 miles from Naples on Monday when they spotted the endangered whale.

Just imagine that you’re sitting in your home and you hear a loud explosion from down the street that nearly blasts your eardrums out.

And then after another 10 seconds . . .

BAM!

After 10 more seconds, another deafening blast. And another and another. Over and over again. Day and night.

That’s what many marine biologists say marine mammals will have to endure from seismic testing.

It’s being called the largest marine mammal stranding in Florida history: nearly 100 false killer whales have been stranded along the shores of Monroe County, on the west coast of Florida just south of Everglades City.

One of the rarest and least-known species of whales off of Florida's Gulf Coast could soon be listed as a threatened or endangered species.

Bill Nelson, D-Florida, is one of 18 senators asking President Barack Obama to deny permits for seismic gas testing off the Atlantic coast.
