Red tide, and blue-green algae or cyanobacteria, have been on the minds of many Southwest Florida coastal residents lately. Dr. Bill Mitsch, a university professor who specializes in wetland, aquatic biogeochemistry and ecological engineering, will share his knowledge on the causes and alleviation of harmful algal blooms at the first free lecture in a series called “Moonlight on the Marsh.”
Dr. Mitsch, the eminent scholar and director of Florida Gulf Coast University’s Everglades Wetland Research Park, will give his speech titled “Investigating the causes and mitigation of harmful algal blooms, including red tide, in south Florida” on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Harvey Kapnick Education and Research Center at the Naples Botanical Garden. Join us as we discuss with Dr. Mitsch the harmful algal blooms that have been wreaking havoc on our beaches.
