Hendry County is asking for donations of food and supplies for residents still without power after Hurricane Irma. You can drop off donations at the Dallas Townsend Agricultural Center at 1085 Pratt Boulevard.
Julie Wilkins is city commissioner for the city of LaBelle. She’s helping lead the donation effort.
"We’re receiving donations. Anybody that has things they want to give: water clothes, food, baby stuff, whatever is needed. After Wilma we did that-- we got together and sent stuff out of town to places that needed and now we're on the receiving end. The eye came through here, the eye wall did, and did some serious damage," she said.
Wilkins says Hendry will also be desperate for volunteers, not right now, but, when the distribution and donation centers get busier. And if you’re a Hendry resident in need of food, the distribution center is at the Household Hazardous Waste Center in LaBelle—that’s 1360 Forestry Division Road.
