The Tallahassee City Commission is crafting a new funding source for its affordable housing directives. The city will begin steering one-time revenues toward a housing fund.

Amidst the aftermath of Hurricane Maria’s devastating effects on Puerto Rico, Florida lawmakers believe the State has been inactive when tackling the issue of displaced Puerto Ricans. This has opened the floodgates for an issue Florida has been dealing with for years.

At the corner of State Road 7 and Coral Bay Boulevard in Margate there’s what looks like any ordinary luxury apartment complex being developed. 

It may still be a construction zone, but the 100 units have all steel appliances, granite countertops in the kitchen and tile flooring. Outside there will be walking trails, a swimming pool and outdoor fitness stations. 

Residents in Florida's biggest cities may be reluctant to recommend their hometown to people looking to move.

The USF-Nielsen Sunshine State Survey asked about deterrents to moving to a community, and 72 percent of people listed traffic congestion as "a problem" or "a big problem."

And the United Way says the disparity between take-home pay and household costs is increasingly affecting households in minority communities.
