New "Welcome To Immokalee" Sign Design Coming Soon

A new design has been selected to grace the “welcome to Immokalee” signs in Collier County.

About 4,500 people voted for their favorite of three original designs created by local artists.

Laura Burns, executive director of the United Arts Council of Collier County, presented the survey results to theImmokalee Beautification Municipal Service Taxing Unit during a meeting held Wednesday.

“Out of all the surveys the Arts Council has put forward, we have never had such an overwhelming response,” Burns said.

Martha Cantu’s submission “Field of Dreams,” received 61% of the votes, followed by “Little Oasis” by Joe Flores, with 25%. The board approved Cantu’s submission to be used on the signs. [can you include pix of them for the web?]

Burns said the UAC will contact the winning artist and work with her “to make sure that the lettering is correct and the placements are correct on the monuments.”

The MSTU board hopes to have the welcome sign enhancement projects completed Oct. 30.
