Voter Registration Extended

kunr.org

The deadline to register to vote in Florida has been extended until Tuesday, October 6, at 7 p.m.

Florida's online voter registration system crashed for several hours Monday evening October 5, just before the midnight deadline to register to vote in the November general election.

Secretary of State Laurel Lee sent a tweet Monday evening saying some prospective voters were experiencing delays for about 15 minutes and that her department had increased the site's capacity.

But the News-Press reports, people say they were getting an error message when trying to register to vote hours prior to the secretary of state's tweet.

Monday's incident marks the fourth time Florida's online voter registration system has crashed since it was put in place three years ago. It crashed a month prior to the 2018 primary election and a day before the voter registration deadline for the 2018 general election.

The site also crashed after the March presidential preference primary earlier this year.
