Parking Lots are Empty at Poling Locations as election day draws to a close

As the clock neared 7:00, polling locations were almost empty. WGCU's Michelle Alvarez reports from Lakes Regional Library.

Julie Glenn: This is WGCU News. I'm Julie Glenn. I'm on the phone right now with Michelle Alvarez who is at one of the polling locations in Lee County that is about to close. Michelle, where are you?

Michelle Alvarez: I'm currently at Lakes Regional Library in Fort Myers. They're about to close in about 10 minutes or so.

Julie Glenn: Have you seen much activity there since you pulled in? You've been there for about, what, 10 minutes?

Michelle Alvarez: Yeah, about 10 minutes or so. When I was arriving, I saw people holding signs, which I assume were standing outside, leaving, and starting to pack up, going to their cars. I currently see a couple of people walking out, I'm assuming they just voted, and some people arriving, which I'm sure they're voting, too.

Julie Glenn: That is the 11th hour, definitely the last minute. As we all know, if you are in line waiting to vote somewhere and the clock strikes 7:00, you still get to vote as long as you were in line at that time. However, we haven't seen any lines at all all day in any of the locations that we have visited. Michelle, did you see any lines?

Michelle Alvarez: No, I didn't see any lines. People that are coming, like you said, last minute to cast in their vote are going in in not even five minutes and coming right back out. So really fast and no line, no waiting.

Julie Glenn: All right. Well, Michelle Alvarez, thank you so much for your reporting.
