A teacher at Island Coast High School in Cape Coral has been suspended with pay, pending reassignment to the Lee County School District Offices, spokesperson Rob Spicker confirmed. The teacher, who has not been named, allegedly told students untruths, including that slaves were not whipped by white people and that the N-word, a racist slur, “just means ignorant.” A student or students in the Advanced Placement government course recorded the statements on TikTok videos, which went viral. The school district said that investigators were on campus Tuesday, February 16, to gather statements from staff and students. The district further said that that until the investigative process is complete, it would be inappropriate for them to comment further.
