First Pride Fest in Charlotte County

Wikipedia Commons, Public Domain

Charlotte County Pride holds its first Pride Fest this Saturday at the County Fairgrounds in El Jobean.

Cary Egbert is President of Charlotte Pride and helped organize the event.  She said an occasion celebrating gay men and women in what’s considered a very conservative county reflects changing demographics.

“The people I have talked to, even the older population, they are very welcoming.   They’re glad to see that Charlotte County is breaking out of its shell,” she said.   “There were some comments that Charlotte County is so red, and I said well now it’s red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple – all the colors of the Pride Flag.”

The event runs from noon to 6 p.m.  Four bands will perform.  There’s a kid zone.  Admission is free with a non-perishable food item.  Several vendors will be on site.  Egbert said all are welcome.
