Independent Voters Declare Party Affiliation To Vote in Florida Primary

The deadline to register to vote in the Florida primary is today. The winner-take all race will set the tone for who’ll end up on the November ballot.

Election officials are urging voters if they haven’t picked a party yet pick one. Otherwise, they won’t be able to vote in the race. It’s a closed primary, which means only the state’s registered republicans and democrats can cast their ballots.
Florida is home to a growing number of independent voters—with the largest concentration in Osceola County. But that doesn’t mean they can’t have a voice according to Osceola County supervisor of elections Mary Jane Arrington.

“I just sent an email to a gentlemen—you know, you can change to a party to vote, then you can change back if you need to", Arrington said. "There’s nothing stopping you from changing.”

The state’s presidential preference primary will take place on March 15th.
