A new septic-to-sewer program in Estero is hoped to reduce the amount of fecal matter that pollutes the village's waterways.

The News-Press reports fifteen communities will be impacted and the price tag is currently at $40 million. National civil engineering firm Woodard and Curran have been hired to facilitate the program, including helping to find grant funding for the project. A recent Florida Gulf Coast University study found fecal matter contamination in the Estero River, a popular place for water recreation.
