  • When Pete Wilking founded A1A Solar in Jacksonville in 2010, the rooftop solar industry was still in its infancy. Just three years later, the company was “very financially viable.”Then Jacksonville’s city-owned utility company changed its rooftop solar policy in 2018, reducing the amount it reimburses solar customers for excess power. That change doubled the amount of time it takes for solar owners to recoup their investment. Demand soured, and Wilking was forced to lay off 25 people, about half of his full time staff.JEA says it changed the policy to keep regular customers from having to subsidize solar customers.
  • State health officials reported 13,900 new COVID-19 cases, Wednesday for a total of 1,517,472 infections. The Florida Department of Health also reported 169 coronavirus-related deaths, Jan. 13, increasing the statewide death toll to 23,759 fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic.
  • State health officials reported 3,571 new cases of COVID-19, Thursday increasing Florida's total to 637,013 cases.The Florida Department of Health also reported 149 new coronavirus-related deaths, yesterday, bringing the statewide death toll to 11,800 fatalities. The seven-day average for numbers of deaths reported in a day is 112. That number has not dropped below 100 reported deaths a day since July 16.
  • State health officials reported 2,402 new cases of COVID-19, Wednesday, increasing the statewide total to 633,442 cases. The Florida Department of Health reported 127 new coronavirus-related deaths, Sept. 2, bringing the statewide death toll to 11,651 fatalities.Of the 4,681,135 COVID-19 tests that have been reported in Florida so far, the overall positivity rate continues trending downward to its current rate of 13.40%.
  • State Health officials reported a new single-day record high number of coronavirus-related deaths, Tuesday. The Florida Department of Health reported 276 deaths, Aug. 11, increasing the statewide death toll to 8,685 fatalities. The previous record was 257 deaths on July 31.The health department also reported another 5,831 new cases of COVID-19, Tuesday, bringing Florida's overall total to 542,792 cases.
