The Lee Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday received an update on the progress of building the new, larger and more resilient Fort Myers Beach Pier that accelerates the planned completion of the project.The estimated completion date of the pier is now in August 2027, ahead of the previous planned completion in summer 2028.

The Charlotte County Commission and the City of Punta Gorda have imposed a ban on all outdoor burning, including the use and discharge of fireworks and sparklers, due to ongoing drought conditions and increased fire risk.Burn bans also remain in effect in Collier, Sarasota, Glades, Hendry and Highlands counties in Southwest Florida.

A water main break on Collier Boulevard Wednesday occurred when a contractor bored through the 24-inch water main. Repair crews are on the scene. Repairs are expected to take 12 to 14 hours.
Immokalee affordable housing applications to open Oct. 1
The Immokalee Fair Housing Alliance will open a new housing application cycle on Oct 1. Sixteen qualifying families will receive the opportunity to live in a two- or three- bedroom apartment. Four of the units are designated for people with special needs.
