Election gives go-ahead for Fort Myers to add and connect parks and green space
Thanks to approval of a $75 million bond referendum on last Tuesday’s ballot, Fort Myers is about to upgrade existing parks and recreational facilities and acquire vacant land for new parks and green spaces. However, there’s more involved than adding more parks and green space to the city’s current inventory. The city’s recently adopted master plan places importance on connecting newly acquired and existing parks and green space to one another.

A Eurasian eagle owl has escaped from the Central Park Zoo and is still loose
The owl, who lives in the Central Park Zoo in Manhattan, was discovered missing around 8:30 p.m. Thursday after its exhibit was found vandalized. Zoo employees have eyes on the owl.
Fort Myers council members want detailed plans for Midtown and City of Palms Park
Members of the Fort Myers City Council want to see specific plans for redeveloping the Midtown area, just south of downtown. Council members also want bidders to present ideas for little-used City of Palms Park - the former spring training home of the Boston Red Sox. Fort Myers said it pays about $240,000 a year to maintain the stadium and surrounding grounds.

An owl that escaped from the Central Park Zoo is still loose — and hunting on his own
The owl escaped after its enclosure was vandalized nearly two weeks ago. Zoo officials were worried he wouldn't be able to hunt and eat because he's used to captivity, but that's no longer a concern.

Naples New Year's Art Fair returns to Cambier Park January 4 and 5
Each year, Southwest Florida residents and visitors enjoy more than sixty outdoor art fairs and festivals. Among them is the Naples New Year’s Art Fair. It’s consistently ranked among the nation’s top fine art fairs by Sunshine Artist Magazine. It takes place in Cambier Park on Saturday and Sunday, January 4th and 5th.
