Court orders special recall election for the Town of Fort Myers Beach on Nov. 4
A special election has been set for Nov. 4, 2025, for a Special Recall Election for the Town of Fort Myers Beach Council Members John R. King and Karen Woodson.The town was informed of the date by Chief Judge of the 20th Judicial Circuit Court J. Frank Porter.
New LeeTran app helps book ADA, Transportation Disadvantage trips
LeeTran is announcing a new mobile app, LeeTran Passport, for ADA (Passport) and Transportation Disadvantaged services.Passport service riders now will be able to book trips up to 14 days in advance, directly through the app from their mobile device or from their computer. The app is available in the Google Play or Apple App store.
Fort Myers Beach to celebrate Florida Arbor Day with gumbo limbo tree planting at Bay Oaks
The Town of Fort Myers Beach is celebrating Florida Arbor Day with a ceremonial tree planting on Friday, January 16 at Bay Oaks Recreation Center. The event will take place in the morning and will honor Florida’s unique environment, native species, and commitment to preserving local flora and fauna.
Town of Fort Myers Beach to issue short-term rental violation notices
The Town of Fort Myers Beach will begin issuing violation notices in the coming weeks to short-term rental properties that are not registered with the Town. The Town has identified approximately 500 short-term rentals currently operating without the required registration. Many of these rentals are managed by property management companies that have not completed the registration process.
Big Cypress National Preserve begins prescribed fire season
South Florida Fire & Aviation will conduct a series of prescribed fire operations across Big Cypress National Preserve over the coming months, as weather conditions and other parameters permit. The planned treatment areas cover approximately 81,002 acres in 4 separate burn treatment units, strategically placed throughout the preserve as part of a multi-year fuels treatment plan.

Hazardous condition is being cited for closure of the boardwalk at the CREW Bird Rookery Swamp Trail in Collier County. The trail parking lot on Shady Hollow Boulevard West is also closed.
Ready-to-eat grilled chicken breast fillet products due to possible listeria contamination
Suzanna’s Kitchen of Norcross, Ga., is recalling approximately 13,720 pounds of ready- to-eat grilled chicken breast fillet products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said.

Lee County government has launched a new online tool to help the community stay informed about active nuisance accumulation cases underway through the Code Enforcement process. Nuisance accumulation refers to the buildup of materials, debris or other items on private property that create unsafe or unsanitary conditions, attract pests or negatively affect surrounding properties.

Luis Emilio Hernandez, 45, of Naples, plead guilty Monday to two counts of wire fraud and six counts of money laundering in connection with a $1.2 million scheme to defraud an elderly victim following Hurricane Ian.
Cape Coral urges residents to cut lawn watering amid ongoing drought conditions
With drought conditions continuing across Southwest Florida, the City of Cape Coral urges residents to voluntarily reduce irrigation to once per week to help conserve the community’s water supply until the rainy season arrives.
