Reported Florida panther death brings 2025 toll to 14, 13 by vehicle collision
The Florida Fish Wildlife Conservation Commission is adding to the 2025 panther mortality list with the news that another of the big cats has been killed.The remains of an 11-year-old, female Florida panther (K408) were collected August 29, 2025, next to Jane’s Scenic Memorial Drive in Copeland, Collier County. The suspected cause of death was a vehicle collision.

Renewal of Vote-by-Mail requests required under Florida law for elections in 2026
Under Florida law, all previous vote-by-mail requests have expired. Voters must submit a new request to vote-by-mail in the 2026 election cycle. Vote-by-mail requests must be made to the county Supervisor of Elections in the voter’s county of registration.
Texas woman gets prison for theft of $2.7M; used Naples bank branch account in ruse
A Texas woman will spend 61 months in federal prison for a scheme involving the theft of more than $2.7 million in government money and using a false Id and a Naples bank account in the ruse. Kristin Cara Kunstler, 43, of Amarillo, was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Kyle C. Dudek to five years and one month in federal prison for the theft of government money and aggravated identity theft. Kunstler pleaded guilty on October 23, 2025.

'Hundreds' of children said rescued in statewide operation; Twenty-nine in Fort Myers
A statewide rescue operation has reportedly recovered 122 children and is being touted as "one of the largest child-recovery operations in American history." Specific details were not available "due to the victims being children, many details are withheld for confidentiality reasons," a spokesperson for the Florida Attorney General's office said.
Fort Myers man convicted in 2016 Club Blu double murder case
Demetrius O’Neal was convicted of two counts of second degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder for his role in the Club Blu mass shooting in Fort Myers on July 25, 2016. In that incident an 18-year-old and a 14-year-old were shot to death outside of Club Blu, 14 others were injured. The jury returned the guilty verdict Friday afternoon, in a trial that began October 7, in a Lee County court.
U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary to host boating safety course on December 20
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Station on Fort Myers Beach will host a "Boat America" Responsible Boating Course on Dec. 20 from 8 am to 5 pm at the Pine Ridge Community Center, 15660 Pine Ridge Road, Fort Myers. The session will cover safe boating practices, navigational tools, equipment use, and more.
