New blue-green algae outbreak in Caloosahatchee is backdrop for lawmakers' touting cleanup funds
A group of Republican state lawmakers met at the Riverside Community Center in Fort Myers to discuss millions of dollars earmarked to clean up the Caloosahatchee River while the Florida Department of Health was issuing an advisory for a significant blue-green algae outbreak that had formed in the water behind them.

Florida lawmakers back nixing local housing regulations
With lawmakers on both sides of the debate pointing to a housing crisis, the Florida House on Wednesday passed a controversial bill that would lead to state law trumping local regulations governing landlords and tenants.The Republican-controlled House voted 81-33 along almost-straight party lines to approve the bill (HB 1417). Rep. Paula Stark, R-St. Cloud, joined Democrats in voting against the bill, while Rep. Kimberly Daniels, D-Jacksonville, voted for it.

Construction to begin on Able Canal shared-use pathway in Lehigh Acres
Construction on the Able Canal shared-use pathway in Lehigh Acres is to begin today. Flagging and staging activity should be expected at Lehigh Acres Park, but there will be no impact to park users during construction.The nearly $10.2 million project will create a 12-foot-wide, 5.58-mile asphalt path along the north side of the Able Canal. It will include a pedestrian bridge, pavilions, landscaping and other amenities.
