Comprehensive water source study, community wildfire plan get OK from Lee Co. commissioners
The Lee Board of County Commissioners Tuesday voted to award a $1.8 million contract for a a Regional Alternative Source Water Study in east Lee County and Lehigh Acres and a $174,334 proposal to develop a countywide wildfire protection plan.In other action, the Lee Board of County Commissioners also voted Tuesday to approve an agreement with Collaboratory to allow the county to address a series of objectives included in the $19.3 million Community Change Grant through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to tackle environmental challenges related to disaster preparedness.

Local segments of a national protest draw huge numbers in Fort Myers, Naples, Port Charlotte
Southwest Florida segments of a nationwide protest that raged on Saturday drew significant numbers with more than 1,000 attending a rally in Fort Myers.There were multiple organizers for the Saturday protests including the Women's March, Hands Off, and 50501. Whatever the inspiration, it drew a lot of interest.
Beware of fake Social Security emails asking to download statements; Scam could harm you
A scam involving emails that appear to be from SSA and include a link to download their Social Security statement have been reported across the U.S. The Social Security Administration (SSA) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) said the email is an attempt to lure individuals to fraudulent sites that are not associated with SSA.

Lee County DOT advises motorists to be aware of double home games during Spring Training
Lee County motorists should be alert on three dates in February and March when Spring Training games will be played at the same time and same day by the Red Sox and the Minnesota Twins.
Lee schools district sets discipline for student walkouts, more than 2,000 students get warnings or zero on class assignments
The Lee County School System said Thursday that it has completed a review and disciplinary process for the student walkouts that occurred February 4-6 with the majority punishment being warnings and no credit for class assignments for those who took part.

Ready-to-eat chicken sausage products recalled due to possible foreign matter contamination
Kayem Foods is recalling approximately 24,173 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken sausage products that may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically pieces of plastic, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.The fully cooked chicken sausage item was produced by the Chelsea, Mass., establishment, on June 28, 2025.
C43 reservoir pumps opened Tuesday to divert polluted Lake O water via Caloosahatchee River
Moments after a ribbon was cut in a Hendry County field Tuesday, pumps were opened and the first of 55 billion gallons started filling the new C-43 reservoir and filtering of that water began."This is a big deal," Ben Albritton, Florida State Senate president said during a ribbon-cutting ceremony moments before the pumps started up.
'Massive and sophisticated' cyber attack targets Florida Trident and its parent organization
Websites of the Florida Center for Government Accountability and the Florida Trident were hit by what was described as a “massive and sophisticated” cyber attack Sunday.Barbara A. Petersen, CEO and publisher of the center and the Trident, said the denial-of-service attack on the flcga.org and floridatrident.org websites were discovered early on and caused only minor disruptions.
