Reopening set for renovated South County Regional Library in Estero
The newly renovated South County Regional Library is reopening at 9 a.m. Dec. 18. There will be an official ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on Jan 7 that will be carried via livestream, on Lee County’s YouTube channel.

Jim Atterholt is retiring after swerving six years on the Fort Myers Beach Town Council, effective at the end of the year. First elected in March 2019, Atterholt's tenure included navigating the Town through the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple major storm events, including Hurricane Ian.
Lee County Public Safety expands availability of AED technology to outdoor Parks & Recreation sites
Lee County is expanding the availability or lifesaving Automated Electronic Defibrillators (AEDs) with additional units to be placed outdoors in five Parks & Recreation locations. The new units mean Lee County will have deployed a total of 258 AEDs across several different county locations including parks and recreation sites, libraries, county administration offices, solid waste facilities, water treatment plants, baseball fields and more.
Racially motivated violent Nazi extremist from Sarasota charged on multiple weapons charges and child sexual abuse offenses
A 20-year-old Sarasota man has been indicted for possession of an unregistered firearm, a firearm with a removed serial number and receiving child sexual material. Lucas Alexander Temple faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison if convicted. Temple was previously arrested on a criminal complaint.
U.S. Coast Guard: Crews suspend Gulf search for missing Fort Myers attorney and his nephew
A search has been suspended off the Gulf shore for 57-year-old Attorney Randall Spivey, and his 33-year-old nephew Brandon Billmaier. The Coast Guard said they were reported missing at about 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service is issuing a public health alert for various raw beef and pork products packaged under the Blackwing Meats label that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection and may bear a false mark of inspection.
