Collier County raising awareness during Human Trafficking Prevention Month

Florida consistently ranks near the top of the list among states when it comes to the most reported cases of human trafficking. January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, so joins us and explore what role the health department in Collier County plays in raising awareness about this issue to help combat it, and increase the public’s understanding about what to look for in hopes of uncovering cases.

Collier County burn ban lifted; continued safety practices urged

Collier County's decision to lift a month-long-plus burn ban came following a review by the Collier County Bureau of Emergency Services, the Florida Forest Service, and the Collier County Fire Chiefs’ Association.

Three time capsules were opened to help celebrate 100 years of Collier County Government. The Collier County Bicentennial Memorial Time Capsule was dedicated July 7, 1976, to commemorate the Bicentennial Year of the United States of America. It was opened July 7, 2023, the 100th Anniversary of Collier County. The Sheriff’s Time Capsule was sealed on the 75th Anniversary of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office. It also was opened on July 7, 2023, by the elected Sheriff in celebration of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office 100th Anniversary. The third capsule was the Viva Florida Time Capsule. It was dedicated by the Collier County Public Library on May 8, 2013, in celebration of the 90th Anniversary of Collier County and Viva Florida 500, to be opened on the 100th Anniversary of Collier County in 2023.

Collier County offices open up the past to celebrate 100 years

Time capsules were opened to celebrate county and sheriff's office anniversaries.

Traffic builds up on I-75 just outside of Immokalee Road. Collier County and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) have a plan in place to reduce traffic issues along Collier's interchanges.

Collier County, state plan multi-million-dollar road projects

Collier County has started making improvements to high traffic roads as part of a multi-million-dollar plan to accommodate its growing population. Commissioner William McDaniel shares a detailed layout of the plan that will improve three key interchanges in the county’s urban area.

Near-drought conditions push Collier County to issue burn ban

The Collier County Board of County Commissioners has authorized a burn ban due to deteriorating near-drought conditions. According to the National Integrated Drought Information System, 99 percent of Collier County is now under abnormally dry conditions.

“Without basic literacy skills, children are at greater risk for academic failure, delinquency, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, unemployment, low productivity and welfare dependency so partnering with Books for Collier Kids fits nicely with our promise to protect and serve our community,” said Sergeant Natalie Ashby – 3729, Diversity Outreach Coordinator, Community & Diversity Services Bureau, Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

Collier County Mosquito Control to offer free mosquitofish June 1

Collier County Mosquito Control will be distributing free mosquito fish and traps Saturday at North Collier Regional Park.The fish, Gambusia mosquitofish, are small but can eat up to 100 mosquito larvae a day. Since the program started in 2019, the District has given out more than 23,000 fish.

Collier County Now Accepting Applications for COVID-19 Relief Funds

Collier County began accepting another round of applications for CollierCares On Monday. The program provides federal relief funds for people experiencing financial hardship resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
