FDEM hosts Elevate Florida program assistance sessions in Englewood March 19-21
The Florida Division of Emergency Management will host a series of application assistance sessions for Elevate Florida, a statewide residential mitigation program designed to protect homes and communities from natural disasters such as hurricanes and floods.Elevate Florida representatives will be available at Tringali Community Center, 3460 N. Access Road in Englewood, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. March 19-21. Residents can learn about the program’s eligibility requirements, types of projects available, and receive assistance with their applications. Elevate Florida educational presentations will take place daily at noon and 5 p.m.

Tsunami Warning Center rescinds tsunami alert for coastlines along the Caribbean Sea
The U.S. Geological Survey reported Saturday that a 7.6 magnitude quake was recorded 209 km south southwest of George Town in the Cayman Islands.The USGS reported that a powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Caribbean, about 130 miles southwest of the Cayman Islands, which triggered a tsunami advisory for several islands nearby Saturday evening. The advisory was lifted several hours later.
Lehigh Acres woman gets 10-year federal prison sentence in $4.2 million wire fraud case
A Lehigh Acres woman is going to spend 10 years in federal prison for a fraud scheme that netted her nearly $4.2 million.As part of her sentence, U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Barber ordered 49-year-old Madelyn Hernandez to forfeit $4,199,498.42, the proceeds of the wire fraud.

Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, FL, K9 Zoe has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. Alleged diesel fuel theft ring members arrested at Punta Gorda gas pumps by deputies
Charlotte County deputies caught three members of an alleged statewide diesel fuel theft ring in the act at a gas station in Punta Gorda.Just before midnight on Monday, Charlotte County deputies were made aware of some vehicles of interest (semi trucks) in multiple diesel fuel thefts entering Charlotte County.
Estero Fire Rescue Battalion Chief arrested on stalking, embezzlement charges
An Estero Fire Rescue Battalion Chief is facing multiple charges after his arrest Sept. 26.Albert “Shane” Sibert, 54, of North Fort Myers was arrested on charges of scheming to defraud, grand theft, official misconduct, digital voyeurism dissemination, unlawful use of a tracking device, aggravated stalking, violation of injunction for protection against stalking, battery and money laundering.Sibert is also charged with 16 counts of unlawful interception of wire or oral communications and six counts of video voyeurism.
