Meeting Dec. 9 to air possibilities for North Fort Myers bike/hike trail
An update from planning consultants on possible routes for a future North Fort Myers biking and hiking trail is the focus of a Dec. 9 meeting of the North Fort Myers Recreation Center. The trail would link the new Caloosahatchee sidewalk with upcoming paths on Littleton Road and Kismet Parkway, eventually reaching Punta Gorda.
Naples woman faces DUI manslaughter charges after fatal wrong-way crash on I-75; Freeway reopens after nearly 8-hour closure
Interstate 75 southbound reopened shortly before noon Wednesday after law enforcement officials said a wrong-way driver caused a fatal crash along a Collier County segment of the freeway. The Florida Highway Patrol said DUI manslaughter charges have been filed against the driver, a 24-year-old women from Naples. She was traveling northbound on the southbound side of 75 when she hit two other vehicles head-on at mile marker 110 shortly after 4 a.m.
Collier County Domestic Animal Services reopens for feline intake, asks community to hold off on non-urgent feline intakes
Collier County Domestic Animal Services will officially reopen for feline intake on July 31, following a temporary pause to stabilize shelter operations. However, though DAS is once again accepting animals, due to ongoing space limitations and medical concerns, DAS would like to continue prioritizing critical feline intakes, focusing on cats and kittens who are sick, injured, or in immediate danger.
Thousands of cases of deodorant ordered recalled by manufacturer
Tens of thousands of cases of deodorant have been recalled by the manufacturer, a report from the Federal Food and Drug Administrations says.The recall by manufacturer A.P. Deauville affects more than 67,000 cases of 1.8 ounce versions of "power fresh"-scented Power Stick for Her Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant, "spring fresh"-scented Power Stick Invisible Protection Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant and Power Stick Original Nourishing Invisible Protection Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant.

Sarasota County expects $210,094,000 in additional hurricane recovery funding
Sarasota County will get a new $210,094,000 allocation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery to assist with recovery and mitigation efforts from Hurricanes Idalia, Helene and Milton and Tropical Storm Debby.The county created the Resilient SRQ program in 2023 to support Hurricane Ian recovery from the prior allocation of $201,535,000 in CDBG-DR funding. It assists the community in rebuilding homes, repairing infrastructure and addressing unmet needs from Hurricane Ian.
Multi-year Sarasota County water meter replacement continuing
Sarasota County is continuing upgrading water meters throughout unincorporated Sarasota County to enhance the utilities system and improve response times during weather events and year-round. This project started in 2023 on Siesta Key and is expected to take five years to complete the remaining meter replacements throughout unincorporated Sarasota County.
