FDA alerts public on contamination of certain imported frozen shrimp sold at Walmart stores in 13 states
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration is recommending consumers who purchased certain lots of Great Value raw frozen shrimp sold at Walmart stores in 13 states, including Florida, not eat or serve the product and instead throw it away. At issue is possible radioactive contamination of the shrimp due to the containers used.The FDA is actively investigating reports of Cesium-137 (Cs-137) contamination in shipping containers and frozen shrimp products processed by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (doing business as BMS Foods) of Indonesia.
DeSantis confirms President Trump visit to 'Alligator Alcatraz'; Petition, lawsuit seek to stop project
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis confirmed Monday that President Donald Trump may be making a visit to the "Alligator Alcatraz" site being prepared in the Everglades in eastern Collier County.That confirmation came after Special VIP Movement Notifications and Notices for Airmen were issued for both Palm Beach Airport, near where the Trump's Mar-A-Lago residence is, and Ochopee, the location designation for the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport where the Alcatraz site is located. There is also a petition on Change.org seeking to stop the project.
Funds for Sanibel Lighthouse Beach park fishing pier, Lovers Key dune, approved
Lee Commissioners approved two measures Tuesday to restore popular coastal areas: $245K to rebuild and landscape a beach dune and commit $2.1M to a Sanibel fishing pier. Commissioners also awarded a contract to provide construction engineering and inspection services on four disaster recovery projects that include work on Pine Island, Iona, Harlem Heights, San Carlos Park and more.
Chicken fettuccine alfredo products recalled for possible listeria contamination; deaths in three states; cases reported in Florida
A nationwide recall has been issued for chicken fettuccine alfredo products that may be adulterated with an outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes (Lm). The products were shipped to Kroger and Walmart retail locations nationwide and have been connected to multiple deaths.The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall Wednesday and public health partners are investigating the outbreak of Lm that currently includes 17 ill people in 13 states. As of June 17, there have been three reported deaths and one fetal loss associated with this outbreak.

CDC: Additional illnesses reported from prepared pasta meals contaminated with Listeria
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control is reporting seven more illnesses have been reported linked to prepared pasta meals that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. CDC and states are working to get information on whether sick people ate recalled food or if additional foods may be contaminated. Twenty-seven people have been affected across 18 states, including Florida, with 25 hospitalized, and there have been six deaths.
