DeSantis issues emergency executive order for ballot access in counties impacted by Ian
At the request of the Supervisors of Elections in Charlotte, Lee, and Sarasota counties, and at the recommendation of Secretary of State Cord Byrd, the Governor signed Executive Order 22-234, which will help ensure adequate access to Florida’s 2022 General Election ballot for the voters of Charlotte, Lee, and Sarasota counties.
Nearly half of deaths reported from Ian so far in Lee County
Florida District Medical Examiners show 55 deaths in Lee County attributed to Hurricane Ian. There were 122 such deaths across the rest of Florida from the storm.
Lee County leads insurance claims from Hurricane Ian at 272,299
State data released last week showed that 776,941 insurance claims had been reported from Hurricane Ian, which made landfall in Southwest Florida in 2022 and crossed the state.
Publix Locations In Lee & Charlotte Counties Join COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout
Florida's partnership with the Publix grocery store chain to administer COVID-19 vaccine doses is now expanding into Lee and Charlotte Counties.Beginning Thursday, Jan. 21, 32 Publix pharmacies throughout Lee County will begin offering vaccine doses to eligible people 65 and older, frontline medical workers and residents and staff of long-term care facilities.Seven Publix locations in Charlotte County are also set to begin administering vaccine doses on Thursday. 16 Publix pharmacies in Collier County joined the vaccine rollout effort last week.

Another Florida panther killed in South Florida; reported at Glades County site
The panther's remains were found in Glades County. Five big cats have been killed by vehicles this year. Eighteen were killed last year, all but one by motorists.
Lee County's Ian debris haul hits record level, continues to grow
By November 30, Lee County had collected nearly 4 million cubic yards of debris since Ian made landfall in late September, a record amount for any hurricane in the United States, but particularly here in Southwest Florida. It's possible that debris collection in Lee County will total 10 million cubic yards.

Two communities, one county: how social determinants impact food security
One grocery store in a community of roughly 25,000 people. This community has a poverty rate of 32%. The majority of the population is either Black or Latino. The median household income is roughly $33,000 a year, just $7,000 above Florida’s federal poverty line.About 50 miles away in the same county, an affluent city bursts with life and luxury. The City of Naples has an average household income of $118,141 with a poverty rate of 8%.Social determinants of health are a major reason why people born in one part of Collier County are expected to live 15 years longer than those in other parts of the county, according to life expectancy estimates from the U.S. Census Tract and the National Center for Health Statistics.
