Hurricane preparation tips from Lee County's Department of Public Safety director
The 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season is well-underway, with southwest Florida’s recent brush with Tropical Storm Alex, which was the first named storm of the season. Alex caused significant flooding in parts of Florida and killed three people in Cuba. The storm serves as a reminder that even though the peak of hurricane season typically doesn’t arrive until September, severe weather can come at any time throughout the six month hurricane season and that now is the time to prepare. We talk with the director of Lee County Emergency Management's Department of Public Safety to get some tips on what residents should do to be ready.

Teacher incentive initiative prompts debate among Lee County educators and parents
For the past couple of years, the Lee County School District has struggled to ensure a teacher in every classroom in public schools around the county. In order to guarantee that every public school in Lee County had a teacher for the 2025-2026 school year, the school district offered a new incentive program. The Teacher Incentive Initiative offers teachers bonuses to teach and stay at high-risk schools around the county.
We meet the new Executive Director of the Lee County Black History Society
The Lee County Black History Society named a new Executive Director in June. Autumn J. Watkins Holloway is a fourth generation resident of the Dunbar Community in Fort Myers. She has two decades of experience as an educator and nonprofit administrative leader. The Lee County Black History Society was founded in 1990 as a nonprofit dedicated to preserving, promoting and celebrating the rich heritage and achievements of African Americans in Lee County.
