New cancer treatment center in planning stages at Estero site
The Estero corridor is becoming a beacon for some of the most advanced, cutting-edge cancer treatment.Southwest Florida Proton opened last December on Estero Parkway and now Curadel Pharma is seeking to build a 43,000-square-foot cancer treatment facility and headquarters two miles away on Corkscrew Road.Curadel officials made their request last week to the Estero Planning Zoning & Design Board at a public informational meeting.
Redesigning US 41/Six Mile Cypress likely not happening before the next 10 years
Drivers navigating the intersection of Six Mile Cypress Parkway and U.S. 41 will need to be patient for at least another decade before they see improvements to make their commutes easier. Design for improvements will take place between 2031 and 2035, according to the county’s Metropolitan Planning Organization priority list that was approved last month. Six Mile to the east of U.S. 41 is a state road; Gladiolus Drive to the west of U.S. 41 is a county road.
Bonita Council OKs vote for bond for rail trail purchase as final piece of project
Bonita Springs has become the final government to approve its share of the $60 million purchase of Seminole Gulf Railway right-of-way for an 11.4-mile bike trail that would extend from Estero into Collier County.

Gianna Clemente’s dream has arrived. Even though she is a month away from her 18th birthday and three months away from graduating high school, she will reach her goal of becoming a pro golfer March 5 when she tees off in the Atlantic Beach Classic on Florida’s east coast.
SWFL to host U.S. Open women, seniors and men qualifiers
Southwest Florida is living up to its reputation as one of the golf capitals of the United States.The region is hosting three U.S. Golf Association qualifiers, one in April and two in May. Crown Colony in south Fort Myers is hosting the senior men’s 18-hole qualifier April 25 and the men’s 18-hole U.S. Open qualifier May 8. Grey Oaks Country Club in Naples is hosting the women’s 36-hole U.S. Open qualifier May 13.The senior men’s open and the men’s and women’s U.S. Opens are three of the most prestigious events in golf.The Florida State Golf Association selects the qualifier sites.
‘Officer Grinch’ gives Florida Keys drivers onions instead of tickets
Holiday motorists going a bit too fast through a school zone on the Florida Keys Overseas Highway might receive an onion from the Grinch instead of a traffic ticket. Colonel Lou Caputo, who recently retired from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, donned the Grinch costume Friday morning to stage an awareness-raising holiday traffic patrol at Key Largo School.
