Drug Sparks Memory- Enhancement Debate
Drugs being developed to aid Alzheimer's disease sufferers promise improved memory function. But the drugs are also reported to aid the memory of healthy people. PETA Footage Puts Kosher Slaughterhouse on Defensive
A grisly videotape recorded inside a kosher slaughterhouse depicts what the animal rights group PETA says is evidence of animal cruelty. But people in Iowa and kosher authorities are expressing support for the owners of the slaughterhouse. NPR's Greg Allen reports.

Researchers in England are exploring a potential new breast cancer treatment that would take advantage of a genetic weakness in cancer cells that normal cells do not have. The new discovery could lead to more effective and easier treatment for millions of people affected by the disease.

As many as 50,000 people may have died from hunger and disease resulting from fighting in western Sudan. Refugees in camps along the Sudan-Chad border face severe water and food shortages but say they're too afraid to return to their villages. Hear NPR's Jason Beaubien.

Iraqi Christians Reel from Church Bombings
Iraq's Christian community was rocked by a series of nearly simultaneous explosions Sunday that targeted five different churches in two Iraqi cities. The U.S. military says at least 11 people were killed and more than 47 injured in the highly sophisticated coordinated attack. NPR's Ivan Watson reports.

Insurer Sees Profits in Covering Obesity Treatment
Starting next spring, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of North Carolina will offer some of the most extensive coverage for obesity treatment in the nation. The insurer is betting that the cost of helping people slim down will be lower than that of treating obesity-related diseases. NPR's Patricia Neighmond reports.

Wisconsin is a swing state in the middle of a fierce presidential campaign, where the undecided voter is the most coveted prize. The state has been deluged with political ads, as many as 500 in a week. While many people say they pay the ads no mind, scholars suggest that things may not be as they seem. Shiite Faithful Mark Holy Day Despite Violence
For a second day, insurgents in Iraq target Shia Muslims as they observed the holy day of Ashoura. At least 30 people were killed. Despite the violence, tens of thousands of Iraqis took part in religious processions to commemorate the death of Hussein, grandson of the prophet Mohammed.
