Florida theft ring arrests made; group heisted 19 RVs/campers used for Hurricane Ian relief
Four people, two of them from Naples, involved in a theft ring that preyed on the campers being used for Hurricane Ian victims were arrested Wednesday by the Florida Highway Patrol and local law enforcement officials.

Double the pleasure of same time Red Sox and Twins Spring Training games means double traffic woes
Spring Training is back, and Lee County’s Traffic Operations Center reminds motorists to be prepared for increased traffic near the stadiums at game time, especially when the Minnesota Twins and the Boston Red Sox take to their respective fields at the same time on the same day.This year, DOT advises motorists to avoid the Daniels Parkway corridor on the afternoon of three specific dates this season.
Big Cypress NP closes trails in more prescribed burn areas
Big Cypress National Preserve has issued a temporary closure to promote visitor safety during prescribed fire activity beginning Monday. Closure includes all areas and trails within the treatment perimeter including Concho Billie Trail North Entrance. Trails on the perimeter of the unit will remain open for use.
FEMA urges Helene and Milton hurricane recovery registration; enacts flood insurance grace periods
FEMA held a press conference in Punta Gorda to discuss disaster relief assistance for those impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Officials emphasized the importance of registering for aid, addressed concerns about the Disaster Relief Fund, and announced an extended grace period for residents with lapsed National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policies.

Male suspect arrested in fatal Three Oaks Parkway shooting
A 25-year-old Cape Coral man is facing homicide, robbery and other charges in connection with a fatal shooting on Three Oaks Parkway Thursday.Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno reported the arrest of Khylil Draine came Saturday.“We knew our suspect in minutes, we arrested him in hours," the sheriff said. "This case still has a lot of work, it’s a fresh case.”
Tire Amnesty Day for discarded tires now planned for Jan. 11
Old tires are notoriously effective mosquito-breeding habitats. Lee County Mosquito Control will accept passenger car tires at an event rescheduled for Jan. 11 due to Hurricane Milton in October.
