Lee County Legislative Delegation members hear from local officials and the public ahead of next year’s legislative session
Ahead of Florida’s 2026 lawmaking session, which begins in January, members of the Lee County Legislative Delegation met, Tuesday, at Florida Southwestern State College. Over the course of the nearly three-hour long meeting, lawmakers heard from 58 local officials and members of the public on a broad range of issues including local appropriation requests, property tax reform, vaccines, water quality and home rule.

Lee County high school junior awarded first place in US District Court Middle District of Florida essay contest
A Fort Myers eleventh grader was awarded first place in the U.S. District Court essay contest. Noah Moon described his experience founding a nonprofit organization that brings youth together through sports. As president of Athletes Activating Champions for Empowerment (AACE), Moon uses his love for sports to mentor those around him and provide a supportive space for kids from all backgrounds.
‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive targets shrinking federal aid, collects nearly 65,000 pounds of food Saturday in Lee County
An annual collection of packaged food items carried out this weekend by the men and women who normally just deliver the mail, may be the only way to help plug holes developing in the social assistance safety net.Saturday was the national Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive and letter carriers across the U.S. were gathered non-perishables to be distributed to those in need.

Debris collection still at forefront of Lee County's efforts; public debris site opens on Pine Island; 5M cubic yards collected
Just the sheer amount of debris produced by Hurricane Ian is difficult to imagine let alone collecting it all in a timely fashion. In Lee County, 5 million cubic yards has been gathered so far, enough to Fill Hertz Arena to the ceiling 13 times.

FWC 'final report' on Lee manatee deaths says FPL adhered to protection plan; 58 manatees dead in county since Jan. 1
Fifty-Eight manatee deaths have been recorded in Lee County since Jan. 1 this year, the majority of those coming since the period of frigid weather hit Southwest Florida according to the final report regarding the recent mass death of manatees in Lee County and made Wednesday by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission.
