A wave of kidnappings has hit Tijuana, Mexico, just across the border from San Diego. Citizens' groups say more than 150 people have been kidnapped for ransom over the last year. The trend has made many wealthier families nervous -- and some are moving to the United States as a result.

The city of Aswan has been dealing with an influx of scorpions and snakes, thanks to a recent rash of heavy storms disturbing their hiding places.

Grassroots Aid for Tsunami Victims
As millions of dollars flow into aid organizations helping the victims of the tsunami, newspapers and Web sites continue to list mostly the largest and most reputable relief organizations. A black box from the fatal Chinese plane crash has been located, officials say
The equipment was extremely damaged, however, so it's unclear how much information it will provide. There were 132 people aboard the flight, which crashed on Monday.

Penalties will get more stiff for committing crimes against police dogs under a bill signed Tuesday by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Volunteers Work To Save Homes, Businesses From Floods
At least 20,000 people had to be evacuated from their homes in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday. Hundreds of blocks are submerged, threatening the city's drinking supply. Emergency officials expect it will be at least four days before water levels are low enough to get crews in pump out the excess water. About 200 homes are expected to have extensive damage due to the levee breach. Many of the same homes were also extensively damaged when the same levee broke in 1993. Minnesota Public Radio's Tom Weber talkes to volunteers of all ages, as they filled sandbags.
