The past, present, and future of Naples Art
Naples Art has deep roots in the Collier County arts community. Founded as the Naples Art Association in 1954, and located at the von Liebig Art Center at Cambier Park since 1998, the nonprofit arts organization offers a year-round schedule of art classes, festivals, educational events, exhibitions, and a summer camp for kids. But, in recent years it’s fallen short of its potential for cultural influence and financial capacity — and that’s exactly what its newest executive director and chief curator is working to change.

Missing Naples woman safe after week trapped in neighbor's garage
First responders and others who spent nearly a week looking for a missing Naples woman expressed surprise and joy after she was found safe but locked in a neighbor’s garage the entire time. On Monday Collier County Undersheriff Jim Bloom held a briefing on the ordeal of 80-year old Margaret Galloway. He said it was incredible she was found safe.
Weekend prescribed fire planned for CREW Management Area
The South Florida Water Management District plans to conduct a prescribed burn of up to 150 acres in the Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed (CREW) Management Area in Collier County this weekend, Saturday, June 29, and Sunday, June 30.

Patronis questions costs of three recent state purchase land deals
Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis suggested the state should have looked again at the prices of three conservation-land deals that totaled $193 million before they were approved Tuesday by Gov. Ron DeSantis and Cabinet members.Patronis said after the Cabinet meeting that a federal judge’s ruling last month in a battle about wetlands permitting has affected the appraised values of the 27,742 acres of agricultural land in Polk, Seminole, Hendry and Collier counties.
After a Respite, Mosquitoes Are Back
For all the damage Hurricane Irma caused in 2017, there was a silver lining: it seemed to wipe out a lot of salt marsh mosquitoes. But nearly three years later, they’re back. And they are not the only pests around.
