Collier County project focuses on back-up power systems ahead of hurricane season
Ahead of the 2022 hurricane season beginning June 1, the Collier County Public Utilities Department is working on a project to increase critical infrastructure resiliency. The goal is to make it more certain that residents will have water services after a big storm.

Emails show DeSantis administration blindsided Collier County officials with plans for 'Alligator Alcatraz'
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' administration left many local officials in the dark about the immigration detention center that rose from an isolated airstrip in the Everglades. That's according to emails obtained by The Associated Press. DeSantis relied on an executive order to seize the land, hire contractors and bypass laws and regulations. The emails show that local officials in southwest Florida were still trying to chase down a rumor about the sprawling "Alligator Alcatraz" facility planned for their county while state officials were already on the ground and sending vendors through the gates to coordinate construction. The detention center was designed to house thousands of migrants and went up in a matter of days.

Lee and Collier counties are taking a new approach to eradicating poverty by offering education to residents across diverse income brackets.The first step was a recent two-day event involving role-play by various people who work for businesses and agencies dealing with hunger and homelessness.
Heads of Collier County charity that honors slain cops arrested; founder charged with embezzlement
On Tuesday, June 21, Rosemary Zore, President of the Robert L. Zore Foundation, was charged with embezzling from the non-profit she formed in 2018A husband-and-wife team steering a Naples-based non-profit organization formed to benefit the families of fallen police officers has been hit with felony criminal charges related to the charity.The state Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement (OALE) also charged Zore with failing to properly register the foundation with the state. Her husband, Michael Randall, faces a single felony charge of failing to register as a professional solicitor after he took a cut of the proceeds from donations he raised while serving as vice president for the charity, which is also known as Fallen Officers.The OALE investigation was launched after inquiries about the charity from the Florida Center for Government Accountability and WGCU Public Media, which published a joint report in April revealing that Fallen Officers had not registered with the state as required by law and had failed to meet federal and state requirements for tax exempt status.
