Encore: Rainy season is here so fertilizer bans are in place across SWFL
Back in the 1990s, as the southwest Florida population grew, it became apparent that local water bodies and waterways were being impacted — and impaired — by nutrient pollution. So, in the late 2000s several local governments began implementing ordinances that prohibited the application of lawn fertilizer during the rainy season, which generally speaking runs from June first through September or so. We learn about Lee County’s ordinance, and the importance of complying with these rules to benefit our waters and ecosystems.

Middle schoolers turn into marine biologists for a week: Dispatch from Kimberly's Reef
Middle schoolers from Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties participate in a week-long summer camp hosted by The Water School at Florida Gulf Coast University. The goal is to teach students about the water habitats they live near and play in.

COVID-19 Morning Update
State health officials reported 6,093 new cases of COVID-19, Tuesday, marking the seventh consecutive day of single-day increases topping 5,000 cases. The total number of cases reported in Florida now comes to 152,434.The Florida Department of Health also reported 58 new coronavirus-relate deaths, yesterday, bringing the statewide death toll to 3,505 fatalities.

SWFL schools are looking at their DEI initiatives after recent Trump Administration memo
On Feb. 14, the Trump administration sent out a memo to the nation’s schools and colleges, giving them two weeks to end any race-conscious enrolling, hiring, training, and diversity programs lest they be cut off from federal funding. As the deadline approaches, many schools are reviewing their programs to see if anything needs to be changed.
