Charlotte County imposes burn ban for drought-like conditions
A burn ban imposed in Charlotte County Charlotte County prohibits all outdoor burning and the use and discharge of fireworks and sparklers.
Expansion groundbreaking set for Lee County Public Safety Center
A public groundbreaking will be Nov. 2 for an expansion project at the Lee County Emergency Operations Center on Ortiz Avenue.The project entails a two-story addition to the existing Emergency Operations Center, which will be renamed the Lee County Public Safety Center when it’s completed.The event at 2675 Ortiz Ave., Fort Myers, will include comments from county commissioners and other officials. The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted to award the contract for the 36,873 square-foot expansion in September.

Burn ban authorized in Collier County due to dry conditions
Collier County's Board of County Commissioners has authorized a burn ban in the county effective this week due to dry conditions.The decision for the ban came after consultation between the Collier County Bureau of Emergency Services, Florida Forest Service, Collier County Fire Chiefs’ Association, Collier County Sheriff’s Office, and the National Weather Service jointly identified a need for a burning ban to become effective immediately after certain environmental conditions were met, including dry conditions. Burn bans have also been announced in the past week in Sarasota and Hendry counties due to the same dry conditions.

Residents in counties with burn bans need to remember that the ignition of fireworks is not permitted this New Year’s Eve, as it is usually a violation of the specific county’s ordinance setting the active ban.
Reopening set for renovated South County Regional Library in Estero
The newly renovated South County Regional Library is reopening at 9 a.m. Dec. 18. There will be an official ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on Jan 7 that will be carried via livestream, on Lee County’s YouTube channel.
