Two dead as small jet crashes on I-75 in Collier County, hits vehicle; Road southbound closed for now
Two people have been confirmed dead after a small jet airplane crash-landed on Interstate 75 in Collier County Friday afternoon, hitting a vehicle in the process and shutting down the southbound lanes at Mile Marker 107.Three of the five people on the jet reportedly survived.Florida Highway Patrol units were on the scene of the crash near the Golden Gate overpass and exit in Collier County. The FHP issued an alert about the crash shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Choking rescue devices added to all Collier County Sheriff's Office units via donation by the inventor and Cassata Foundation
Choking is the fourth leading cause of accidental death with one child is lost to choking every five days and a total of 5000 people a year. But there is a device that has the potential to help lessen those chances — the LifeVac — and now Collier County Sheriff Office units will all have one of the life-savers. Collier Sheriff Kevin Rambosk displayed the LifeVac at a special media briefing Thursday at the Professional Development Center in Collier County and said the Sheriff's Office is adding 500 LifeVac choking rescue devices, enough to equip every CCSO patrol vehicle.The donation was made possible by The Cassata Foundation and LifeVac inventor and CEO Arthur Lih. Foundation trustees Rosario S. Cassata and his wife Carolyn Cassata are Collier County residents. Lih lives in Southwest Florida as well.

Collier County Domestic Animal Services reopens for feline intake, asks community to hold off on non-urgent feline intakes
Collier County Domestic Animal Services will officially reopen for feline intake on July 31, following a temporary pause to stabilize shelter operations. However, though DAS is once again accepting animals, due to ongoing space limitations and medical concerns, DAS would like to continue prioritizing critical feline intakes, focusing on cats and kittens who are sick, injured, or in immediate danger.
