Cypress Camp Trail Fire Winds Down; 81% containment reported
The Cypress Camp Trail Fire, which started on April 4, 2023, is now 9,749 acres and 81% contained. Crews will continue to hold and improve the perimeter of the fire over the next several days, or until precipitation ensures the fire is secure.

Final Ian debris collection pass underway in Charlotte County, bulk pickup to resume Feb. 6
To see the progress of the final pass and where the pass has been completed, visit www.CharlotteCountyFL.gov/debris. Dec. 31 was the last day to put storm debris in the right of way for pickup.

Filter marsh to mixed-use trail, Lee commissioners OK projects

Detectives lunching at Publix spot and arrest 16-year-old burglary suspect
A 16-year-old from Cape Coral was arrested Tuesday after his father reported suspicious items found in his son’s bedroom after he had been reported as a runaway.The Cape Coral Police Department has arrested John David Ruiz in connection with a burglary involving stolen security equipment. The arrest occurred days after Ruiz was reported missing and while detectives were eating lunch at Publix and spotted Ruiz, whom they noticed had put his Crocs shoes into “sport mode” in futile preparation to flee.
