January 12 is the deadline to apply for a Small Business Loan in Florida related to Hurricane Ian's damage. Anyone in the declared Florida counties who incurred damage from September 23 through November 4 from Hurricane Ian should apply for the disaster recovery loan program.
Joe Cavanaugh's tenure as Calusa Waterkeeper over after 11 months
Joe Cavanaugh, the Calusa Waterkeeper hired last May, is no longer with the organization. Calusa Waterkeeper is a nonprofit that works to protect and restore the Caloosahatchee River from Lake Okeechobee to the coastal waters of Lee County.
COVID-19 Morning Report
State health officials reported 67 new COVID-19 cases, Wednesday, bringing Florida's total to 706,516 cases. The Florida Department of Health also reported six new coronavirus-related deaths, Sept. 30, increasing the statewide total to 14,488 fatalities.

Legislation Aims to Update Baker Act Protocols for Children
In Florida, 37,900 children were detained for involuntary psychiatric exams during 2018-2019. That's an increase of more than 150% in the past 18 years. Legislation being considered in Tallahassee during this year’s legislative session would reform how Baker Act cases involving children are handled.
