Monkeypox: Prevention, treatment, and what you need to know about the global epidemic
So far more than 1,300 people in Florida have tested positive for monkeypox with the majority of cases stemming from South Florida. The vast majority of infections are in men who have sex with men. As this global epidemic grows, vaccine supply remains limited. The latest data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates Florida has the third highest number of confirmed monkeypox infections in the country. We’ll take a closer look in a conversation with Southwest Florida-based infectious disease specialist Dr. Douglas Brust.

Hurricane Ian Update -2PM
Regionwide-destruction caused by Hurricane Ian is beginning to come into focus today after Ian made landfall yesterday afternoon as one of the strongest hurricanes ever to hit the United States. Ian flooded homes and destroyed a portion of the Sanibel Causeway leaving the island with no access besides by boat. At its peak, Ian knocked out electricity to 2.7 million FL homes and businesses and there are curfews in place in Lee and Charlotte counties where emergency officials are urging people not to go out and tour the damage. On today's show we are going to connect with some of our reporters and producers out in the field surveying damage to try to get a sense of what we're facing and begin to consider what it's going to take to try to recover.

Ranger Toni retires after 23 Years of service, leaving a lasting legacy at the ‘Ding’ Darling Refuge
Toni Westland joined the federal workforce as a ranger with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers giving lock and dam tours on the Mississippi River. She then had a stint in north Georgia at Lake Lanier, then moved on to Lake Okeechobee and then Manatee Park in East Fort Myers. At some point she had vacationed on Sanibel Island so knew she loved the J.N. “Ding” Darling Wildlife Refuge, so when the opportunity arose in 2002 for her to join their team as an education specialist, she jumped on it and has been at Ding Darling ever since. Now, she's taking an early retirement as part of the federal government's downsizing DOGE efforts.
