  • The number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported by state health officials, Wednesday, shatters the previous daily record of new cases. The Florida Department of Health reported 5,508 new cases of the virus, June 24, increasing the statewide total to 109,014 cases. Wednesday’s increase in coronavirus cases is 36 percent more cases than the previous single-day record announced last Saturday.

  • About 75% of the world’s flowering plants and about 30% of crops rely on pollinators. Things like habitat loss, pesticide use, climate change, and invasive species are all threats to pollinator populations, which are truly essential for both ecological balance and food security. On August 22-23 Floridians can do their part as citizen scientists to help researchers keep tabs on the health of pollinator populations by participating in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census. To participate, during those two days you simply pick one or more plants in your yard that attract pollinators and watch them closely for 15 minutes and count each time an insect lands on the plant, and then upload that information into a database.
  • State health officials reported 4,181 new cases of COVID-19, Monday, increasing Florida's total to 536,961 cases.The Florida Department of Health also reported 91 new coronavirus related deaths, Aug. 10, bringing the statewide death toll to 8,277 fatalities. Monday's reported number of deaths is one of lowest daily increases in weeks, and the daily increase in reported cases of the virus has remained below 10,000 cases for the last two weeks.
